Join us on December 7, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM to explore the work of this month’s Museum Store Feature Artist, Alex Jimenez. Jimenez’s work will be on view and available for purchase in the Museum Store through December 31, 2018.
Alex! Jimenez is a Mexican-American artist, designer, illustrator, print-maker, and fifth generation Tucsonense. Alex’s art addresses social issues and reframes notions that disempower her community. The carne (meat) of the work delves into identity within natural and man-made landscapes with a focus on issues of social inequality, gentrification/development, and place-making. Her multi-year project Abecedario del Sur explores the heart of the Southside of Tucson and elevates the visual culture of an often denigrated part of town. Her recent printed works use Spanish words to explore the power of family, women, and her community. Alex’s various works are united by her vibrant color palette and use of minimal text to engage the viewer to reflect on Mexican heritage and identity within the quickly changing landscape of Tucson.
